My Journey

I have lived my entire life in New England, finding inspiration in the woods and seashores throughout the four seasons. Painting these landscapes have always been joyful experiences for me. My father worked in a local paper mill while I was growing up and would bring home batches of heavy paper of different colors. I would grab the bundle of paper as if it were made of gold, and sketch endlessly. I'd also spend hours making paper dolls, cards, and other wonderous creations with it.

While my children were growing up I started taking art classes from the Fitchburg Art Museum and the Worcester Art Museum. Semi-private classes with Charlotte Wharton, a well known Worcester portrait and landscape artist, encouraged me to paint en plein air and helped me develop my skills. Each teacher I've had has given me a different perspective, new tools, and more creative power. I have learned a variety of mediums and enjoy how each one creates a distinct look. Then I started combining different mediums into mixed media collages, and found it gave me an immediate way to express my thoughts and emotions.

Art is a spiritual journey for me, and when I enter my studio, I try to put the world aside and delve into the materials for a new trip, new insight. During the cold winter months I enjoy working on still lifes and collages. My mixed media work often springs from my love of color and design. Being a member of the Leominster Art Association for over twenty years, I have won many ribbons. I have exhibited at the Nashoba Valley Medical Center most recently and look forward to new venues.
